Energy supplier backs efficiency scheme
A leading energy supplier has backed a new scheme to improve the energy efficiency of households across the UK.
EDF Energy is working in partnership with the Housing Corporation and eaga to offer residents of housing associations free energy saving light bulbs.
The bodies have written to organisations urging them to join the initiative, which would begin rolling out the bulbs to households from the start of September this year.
Richard Sykes, head of energy efficiency at EDF Energy, said: "Everyone has a part to play in tackling climate change.
"We are extremely supportive of schemes which help to encourage people to consider and reduce the environmental impact they may have."
One of EDF Energy's leading competitors in the gas and electricity sector, British Gas, launched a similar scheme for its customers earlier this year.
Announced in May, the supplier stated it would distribute around 52 million energy saving light bulbs to clients across the UK and supported the scheme through a major promotional drive.
